Agrarian life in Bhaktapur

People often leave piles or rice or other grain in the street like this to dry before milling off the chaff. It's not clear whether the livestock running around are trained not to eat it, or if this is considered an acceptable loss. Keep in mind that this is 15 minutes from downtown Kathmandu.
