Crossing the snow

When we crossed at 8:30 in the morning, the snow was actually quite easy to walk on, because it was frozen but still crunchy enough to give plenty of traction. The hard part was getting over the icy patches on the edge of the snow field, where the snow had melted and then frozen again on the rocks.
