Pisac |
Pisac is a small town in the Valle Sagrado (Sacred Valley of the Incas). There are some ruins there, but mainly we are going there to avoid altitude problems (it is at 9500 ft vs 11000 for Cusco) |

Cusco is the provincial capital and a sprawling city of nearly 300,000. It has lots of cathedrals and other colonial architecture but mainly will be our transportation hub. |

Inca Trail |
We are doing the 4-day trek, starting from Km 82 of the Cusco-Machu Picchu railway (nearest town is Llaqtapata). The Inca trail starts at 8200 ft and goes up over a 13500 ft pass on the way to Machu Picchu at about 8000 ft. Part of it are still the original Inca stonework (steps in some places). See the site below (including the Inca Trail map & movie links) for more details on where we will hike & camp each day. |

Aguas Calientes |
Aguas Calientes is the small town at the foot of the hill that Machu Picchu is on. There is also a hot spring there (not surprisingly since the name literally means hot springs in Spanish). We will spend the night so we can see Machu Picchu at sunset and return the next day as well. |
