A partial listing of some of the recent assignments undertaken by the AquaSol,Inc. team includes the following:

  • 2011-present: AquaSol, Inc. has enlisted a world class team of shrimp farming experts to perform an industry-wide audit of the New Caledonia shrimp farming industry. The audit is investigating all hatcheries, farms, and feed manufacturers. This audit is a concerted effort to identify critical problems areas that are responsible for the chronic high costs of production and general lack of competiveness with lower cost producers around the world. This audit will ultimately lead to recommendations geared to optimize the overall performance and profitability of the New Caledonia shrimp farming industry.
  • 2010-present: Retained by a young entrepreneur from Bahrain to perform a site search, site analysis and feasibility study for a proposed commercial aquaculture project in Oman. A two week mission to Oman was recently completed and three high potential sites have been identified. We are currently completing the feasibility study for a land-based marine fish farming project and will be submitting our proposal to the Ministry of Fisheries Wealth in August 2011.
  • 2010-present: Currently serving as fish farming expert witness retained by Hollingsworth LLP in the matter of Venancio Aguasanta Arias v. DynCorp International. A claim has been made by an Ecuadorian fish farmer that the herbicide glyphosate used by the Defendant in accordance with their contract with the government of the United States and Plan Colombia killed fish on his farm. Efforts to date have included advisement and preparation of an expert report.
  • 2010: Advised a South Florida development company interested in developing an aquaculture operation in Florida. A site review, detailed design and production protocols and pro-forma financials were most recently delivered on a proposed $12 million intensive recirculating outdoor aquaculture system to produce Hybrid Striped Bass.
  • 2009-2010: Mr. Frese performed work related to two cases involving shrimp farming. Claims made by two Ecuadorian shrimp farms were that a fungicide manufactured by DuPont killed shrimp on these farms. The two cases were Aquamar v. DuPont and DIBSA v. DuPont. Mr. Frese’s work was focused on one of his areas of expertise - shrimp farming;
  • 2008-present: AquaSol, Inc. is developing a proposed USD 9 million offshore Cobia cage culture project in The Bahamas. Initial consulting work for a former client focused on identifying suitable sites for marine fish culture in The Bahamas. A suitable site was identified and a site analysis was completed. A comprehensive feasibility analysis is underway. AquaSol, Inc. is currently developing this as an in-house project and intends to attract venture capital to this high potential project;
  • 2008-2009: AquaSol, Inc. was retained to investigate the feasibility of a USD 10 million Tilapia farming project in Guatemala. A site search, site analysis and preliminary feasibility study was completed and detailed recommendations were delivered to the client. A report on the recommended structuring of the marketing arrangement between the US and local investor was also provided to the US investor;
  • 2007-present: Mr. Frese is developing a co-operative sustainable fish farming model community for ultimate deployment in the fight against hunger and poverty in Africa. To enable future visibility and access to non-profit funding, the web site fishfarmer.org has been reserved;
  • 2007-2008: Special projects advisor to one of the largest Tilapia farming companies in Central America. Areas of advisement included a wholesale selling price cost increase justification study, a comparative case study on cage culture practices in major producing countries, development of company position statements and development of presentations on organic aquaculture standards and food safety;
  • 2007-2008: Advised a European wealth management group interested in developing an alternative asset fund focused exclusively on publicly-traded aquaculture companies. At the time of engagement, the client had approximately USD 1.5 billion in assets under management. AquaSol, Inc. provided aquaculture industry expertise, formulated investment screening criteria and performed preliminary due diligence work on the universe of approximately sixty publicly-traded aquaculture companies;
  • 2007-2008: Advised a South Florida real estate development and construction company investigating the feasibility of establishing a commercial recirculating aquaculture project in Highlands County, Florida;
  • 2007: Provided exclusive representation to a U.S. private equity investor seeking investment opportunities in the aquaculture industry. At the time of engagement, this high profile client had a net worth in excess of USD 1 billion. Duties included sourcing of investment opportunities, providing aquaculture due diligence and making investment recommendations;
  • 2004-2006: AquaSol, Inc. was under exclusive contract with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Chemonics Corporation and a local Ugandan investor to deliver an in-depth feasibility study for proposed commercial Tilapia cage culture activity in Lake Victoria. Key components of this study included an exhaustive site search of Lake Victoria for sites suitable for commercial cage culture, site search for suitable land-based locations for hatchery development, site analysis of the highest potential sites, an assessment of both traditional and fish farming infrastructure, an environmental impact study, a social impact study, development of commercial production protocols, delivery of an European Union (EU) market analysis, development of a strategic EU marketing plan and delivery of a bankable financial feasibility analysis. Subsequent to these efforts, a commercial Tilapia farming industry has developed on Lake Victoria;
  • 2003-2004: Performed an appraisal of several aquaculture assets for the largest aquaculture company in Belize at the time. A site analysis and a feasibility study for a potential Tilapia farming venture were performed and an assessment of a non-operational shrimp farm was conducted;
  • 2003-2004: Assisted a Brazilian client investigating the prospects of a major investment in a greenfield Tilapia farming project in Brazil. A detailed report on the market for farm-raised Tilapia in the United States was delivered to the client. This in-depth report capitalized on face-to-face interviews with local seafood importers and wholesalers and an extensive telephone marketing survey of major buyers of farm-raised Tilapia in the United States;
  • 2003: Delivered aquaculture consulting services to an existing fish farming operation in California. Advised on a wide range of issues including design, construction, equipment sourcing, farm management, inventory management, production methods, water quality monitoring, broodstock sourcing and hatchery development;
  • 2002-2003: Advised a Vietnamese client on all phases of development of a vertically integrated Tilapia farming industry in Vietnam. Areas of advisement included commercial hatchery production, fry production, fingerling production, cage culture growout, feed formulation, processing plant safety, sanitation, HACCP protocols, U.S. market analysis and development of a U.S. marketing office;
  • 2001-2002: Completed a site search, site analysis & preliminary feasibility study for a proposed aquaculture project in the Turks & Caicos for a high profile client in the entertainment industry;
  • 2001-2002: Developed a strategic plan to convert two of the largest vertically integrated shrimp farming operations in Ecuador to Tilapia farming operations. Together, these two farms covered more than 4,000 hectares of farming area. Recommendations were given on hatchery production, growout production, feed quality and processing. The plan was successfully implemented under the guidance of an associate of AquaSol and the operation developed into one of the largest producers of Tilapia in Latin America;
  • 2001-2002: Advised several Venezuelan clients seeking to establish commercial shrimp farming operations in Venezuela. Site search, site analysis and preliminary feasibility studies were prepared and delivered to the clients. In one case, a valuation of a dormant shrimp farming operation was prepared and an expert opinion regarding the investment opportunity was delivered. In another case, plans were drawn for a novel recirculating super-intensive shrimp farming system designed to utilize biofloc and high rates of aeration in an outdoor setting. Pro-forma financials comparing traditional semi-intensive vs. super-intensive system design were delivered to the client;
  • 2001: Advisor to an established South Florida importer and producer of African Cichlids. Over the course of nearly one year, areas of focus for this client included refinement of farm and business management practices, disease diagnosis, and the development of effective disease treatment protocols;
  • 2000: Delivered an expert opinion on the existing management methods for a Macrobrachium rosenbergii (freshwater shrimp) farm in the Dominican Republic;
  • 2000: Advised on a proposed 1,000 hectare Tilapia farming project in Suriname. The scope of work included a comprehensive site analysis, feasibility study, preliminary design work and development of production protocols for a major new Tilapia project in Suriname;
  • 1996-2000: Delivered project development and project management services to a greenfield Tilapia farming project in Venezuela. Over a three-year period, AquaSol managed this project through all phases of development. Some of the areas where expertise was provided to this project included site analysis, feasibility analyses, market analyses, development of the farm design, materials sourcing, farm construction, development of the production manual, financial analyses, training, contract farm management, water quality management, hatchery management, disease diagnosis, processing plant design and development and long-term strategic planning.
  • 1991-1994: Marine lab design & construction services were delivered to Florida International University (FIU). While employed by the State of Florida, Mr. Frese developed design criteria and managed the construction of a marine fish culture and research facility for FIU.
